The Golf Long Game- Always Simplify the Golf Swing for Better Results

Most golfers when they’re on the tee tend to think about greater distance first followed by accuracy second. Golfers generally are enamored with people who have a great golf long game and can hit the ball a long way, but any golf swing should take into consideration a consistent golf swing, and that means always keeping the ball in play. To simplify the golf swing for better results the emphasis for almost all golfers should be to do less, not more. The fewer number of moving parts in the golf swing will result in being better able to develop a repeatable golf swing, and repetition will usually lead to consistency.

When a golfer is trying to gain greater distance off the tee that distance will be generated by increasing the club head speed. This will be gained through a coordinated effort from multiple areas of the body, but most of the energy in the swing will come from the core area. And when we talk of a clean ball strike, this can only be done consistently when the swing is under complete control.

Below are some of the main aspects that will provide the foundation of the correct golf swing. The path the club takes into the hitting area, the complete swing route of the club (also known as the golf swing plane), and the various parts of the body that coordinate the club hitting the ball is what brings all of the parts of the body together for maximum power. The following are the parts of the swing which will give us the results we want.

Four aspects of the Golf Swing We need for Consistency

  1. Balance. Hitting a golf ball consistently requires being in complete balance throughout the golf swing. Balance is so vital in how to hit any shot consistently, and it is often so neglected, that it could be said that any swing tip should start with this. As an example of the importance of balance, we all know how difficult it is to play in windy conditions, and this will have more to do with balance than how the wind affects the flight of the ball.
  2. Maintain Lag. This may be classified as the secret weapon on how to hit a golf ball. It is defined as the club head “trailing” the hands. Many higher handicap golfers have trouble with the concept, because constant acceleration is needed to ensure a lagging club head through impact, and they do not normally accelerate through the ball, but quit at the ball at impact. That final rip through the ball adds club head speed, and distance.  This will be aided by the grip a golfer uses, and in some of our articles on this website we will go into the importance of the grip in maintaining club head lag.
  3. Ability to relax. This is another guideline that doesn’t receive enough attention. For the muscles to be quick and fire in proper coordination, they can’t be tight. It is a scientific impossibility that you can play good golf if you are tense. Golf relaxation exercises can be practiced off the course to be used when you need them most for your golf swing.
  4. Full Follow Through. As mentioned earlier in our second golf swing tips, most high handicappers swing at the ball, with the feeling that immediately when the ball is struck, the swing ends. A major key to how to hit a driver is to accelerate through the ball, which obviously means the only thing slowing the club after impact would be the resistance of the ball. Finish the swing completely, with your weight forward.

These are the muscles that initiate the golf swing and allow you to drive your weight through the hitting area.
